This week footballer Cristiano Ronaldo announced he will be entering the world of fashion by unveiling his new line of underwear CR7. Some say his line of underwear resemble that of David Beckham. Christiano being the highest paid footballer at $15M and a member of the Real Madrid and Portugal football clubs it’s only fitting that he would make a leap into fashion.
Footballers, because of it’s European roots are known for being the most fashionable athletes in the world among Hollywood and the fashionable. After all a desingner belt, skinny jeans, and a fitted suit is a far cry from what you see on your average NFL or NBA player. Unfortunately, the majority of American big name athletes make some hideous fashion choices with bright suits, snake skin dress shoes or big jeans and Tshirts with the latest hot pair of sneakers. Making it quite obvious why big name fashion brand Emporium Armani sign the likes of Ronaldo and Beckham to big money contracts. The word is that this venture comes from a collaboration with New York based designer Richard Chai and there will also feature a line of socks. Ronaldo says that fashion is his passion and he is proud of the collection.
Is Ronaldo the next David Beckham? Some say that is his ultimate goal and he is the highest paid footballer in the world. Beckham amassed a $200m fortune endorsing everything from underwear to watches. Ronaldo has his own portfolio of big names under his wing, including sports wear giant Nike who signed him for a whopping $10.8m for a 4 year contract back in 2006. He is obviously bankable and is adding underwear to his endorsements. But are the underwear going to pass the scrutiny test of the ever so judgmental fashion world?
